EAT Detroit has plans to host a special food crawl in June with acknowledged locations such as Prime and Proper, Roast, Grey Ghost, Selden Standard, San Morello, Townhouse, Parc, SheWolf, and many others. Modeling after the Dine-N-Dash event in Washington DC, the event ranges from $100-$250 per ticket and will be benefiting Detroit’s local organization, SAY Detroit.
SAY Detroit is a branch of local charities founded to improve the lives of the unfortunate through assistance with shelter, food, medical care, volunteer relief, and education. The founder and host of Eat Detroit, Mitch Albom, is an author and journalist that had moved to Detroit in 1985 to obtain a sports writing position at Detroit Free Press.
The charitable philanthropist began his journey in 1995, when he rekindled his relationship Morrie Schwartz, his former college professor who was dying with ALS. During the course of his time with Morrie Schwartz, Albom began to write his best-selling novel “Tuesdays with Morrie” which in turn, funded the late professor’s medical bills.
As a result of the time he spent with Professor Schwartz, Albom went on to move away from his career as a sports writing journalist and being one as an internationally recognized, best-selling author. Besides from his affection for the literary arts, Albom went on to begin SAY Detroit and 7 other charities local to the Detroit area.
This coming June, Albom plans to sell 900 tickets to bring in locals to the heart of Detroit to indulge in 3 specialty plates and a signature drink at each participating location. Starting in Campus Martius, best route options and staff will be on location to direct traffic and provide event shuttles to take patrons to further destinations.
VIP tickets include an exclusive dinner at San Morello located in the Shinola Hotel’s Birdy Room and an interactive experience with the writer himself during the after-hours dessert party at One Campus Martius. Tickets are available through eventbrite and will be on sale until June 10th.
