The Attraction of Magnet
Even after a rough year, Takoi’s team just couldn’t get enough. Moving right into 2018, Philip Kafka has relocated to Detroit and is expected to open his new restaurant this Spring/Summer. Magnet, located in the old Magnet Radiator Works building, will be serving the dishes fresh out of a wood fired grill with the high prospect of Asian and Italian influences. With the same team and architects that worked alongside each other for Katoi, you can bet on another mouth dropping experience.
A Calling to the Siren Hotel
The former Torino chef and James Beard nominee Garrett Lipar has heard the Siren’s calling and is returning to the kitchen once more. Joining along side cocktail bar Candy Bar and Populace Coffee, Lipar’s plans to open the restaurant Albena at the boutique styled hotel. The bad news? The date for the grand opening has yet to be determined.
SheWolf (Minus Shakira)
Though former Bacco chef, Anthony Lombardo, has left the Italian-American restaurant behind in the dust- we promise it’s for greener pastures. Known better in D.C. circles, the Detroit native has returned home and plans to open up his own modern Italian joint in Midtown, complete with its own milling and grain for flour.
The Final Pick; Flowers of Vietnam 2.0
Besides from being busy getting dubbed one as of the “Best New Restaurants” as well as a semifinalist for Zagat’s first ever 30 Under 30 on a nationwide basis, chef George Azar is ready to open a more permanent location for his restaurant. Shifting away from his normal weekend only slots to numerous pop-up locations, Azar closed his doors and is anticipated to presented his fixed location in the near future.
Keep Watch for The Shinola Hotel
Though several of the details for the culinary and beverage menu has been kept under wraps, what we do know is that Andrew Carmellini’s team will be handing all the above when The Shinola Hotel opens its doors in late 2018. For those who have no idea who Carmellini is, his legacy has been trickling along the fine dining grapevines since 1998. Winning two James Beards Awards in his lifetime thus far, we can guarantee that the food and drinks menu will be on point.
