GM River Days
When: June 22-24
Where: Detroit Riverfront from the Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority Terminal & Dock just west of the GM Renaissance Center, to Rivard Plaza and the William G. Milliken State Park
What: Jet-ski demos, sand sculptures, food, and live music from Kool & the Gang, Tamia, Morris Day & the Time, and Donell Jones. Always one of the best-attended summer festivals.
Motor City Fest
When: July 14
Where: The Sanctuary (2932 Caniff, Hamtramck, Michigan 48212)
What: Metal music festival featuring Sworn Enemy, All Out War, Sand, Great Reversals, and more.
When: July 20-21
Where: Lincoln Street Art Park (5926 Lincoln St, Detroit, MI 48208) and Marble Bar (1501 Holden St, Detroit, MI 48208)
What: “Crash Detroit invites street bands from around the country to perform in underused spaces and businesses throughout the city of Detroit.”
